How do I start working as a freelancer in technical professions?
As a freelancer in technical professions, you offer your services either to companies or directly to clients. As a freelancer, you have complete control over what jobs you take on, when you want to do them and how much you want to be paid. These benefits are extremely rare as a full-time employee.
The role of engineers has changed in recent years. Today, engineers can work in all sorts of areas, from planning, designing and developing new products to marketing.
This leaves room for freelancing either on the side or full-time.
Electricians and IT professionals also face a changing working environment. The digitalization of the world does not suit everyone and many people still need the support they can only get from trained officials.
The tasks of an IT professional can range from maintaining servers, infrastructure, networks, systems and applications. Resolving support issues, performing installations of applications, systems and servers are also common.
The electrician's tasks are somewhat along the same lines and therefore freelancing is a great opportunity for all these professions.
By freelancing as your professional role, you have greater control over your working hours and assignments. Many freelancers are self-employed, but if you prefer to invoice as a private individual, we at Worknode can help with the invoicing process - so you can focus on maximizing your skills.

You get the money after 3-5 days 👏

What does it take to work as a freelancer?
For these professions, all that is really required is a degree.
Having experience and good references is obviously an advantage and competitive in the job market. But it is not actually a requirement, as you are your own boss and you usually get your customers on your own.
That said, as you are your own boss, you need to know that you are the one who has to find your customers, you are the one who has to throw the hooks and you are the one who has to make sure they pay.
When it comes to charging for your services, there are two options. Either you can start your own company and invoice through the company, but this is both difficult and expensive. Starting your own limited company in Sweden costs 25,000 SEK and involves a lot of administration and bookkeeping every year.
The second option is to invoice as a private individual. Initially, this is by far the best option so that you can focus on building your clientele and delivering good results. In other words, you don't have time to learn how to run a business and deal with administrative tasks.
By creating an account on Worknode, you can invoice without a company for only 3.5% fee and you don't have to do any administration. When the customer pays the invoice, you get the salary directly into the account taxed and ready.
How much should you charge when freelancing in technical professions?
When it comes to how much you should charge the customer, it is not really possible to say an exact amount. It varies greatly from profession to profession and how much you work.
According to figures from 2019, a newly graduated engineer earns between SEK 31,000-36,500.
What a freelancer is paid depends largely on the amount of experience and knowledge.
This experience and knowledge also applies to electricians and IT professionals. In the electrician's case, however, it is possible that a deviation of 15% from the agreed labor cost is ok for a craftsman to charge on his own unless otherwise agreed.
As a private individual, a lot of responsibility is required when it comes to administration and taxes, which is why we at Worknode want to help you with that bit.
You simply leave the invoicing process to us, and we will help you all the way. Your salary is then added to the "my salary" tab, where you can choose how much money to transfer to your bank account. This way you can focus on your business and avoid unnecessary stress. If you want to know how much you'll get after taxes, you can use our handy salary calculator.
What is freelancing - why not start your own business?
Even if your goal is to become self-employed, there's no harm in starting out as a freelancer. In fact, it might even be better.
When you are freelancing, you have a lot of opportunities to test the waters and see if your business is worth investing in. It is also at this stage that you build up your clientele.
In fact, the most important thing is to have customers. Without a clientele, there is absolutely no point in starting a business. By freelancing initially, you can both focus on getting clients, get into the independent and flexible work and when all that goes well - then you can start thinking about the business part.
However, there are some freelancers who, even when they have built up a clientele, continue to invoice without a company. For many freelancers, the convenience of not having to deal with all the administration and having the money paid directly into their payroll account is crucial.
And with Worknode, you get the maximum pay, as the fee is only 3.5%!
