When people talk about the concept of the platform economy, there is sometimes confusion about the meaning of the term and how to relate to this relatively new word.

In simple terms, the platform economy refers to the social and economic work that takes place through online platforms, e.g. giggers doing jobs for Uber, Foodora, Fiverr, etc.

Through our model, freelancers can easily find work and invoice clients through our platform. We handle all the administration, all you have to do is complete the assignments and get paid.

But, who are the "giggers"?

Giggers are independent people who are usually looking for more short-term and quick assignments. They can be found in a variety of industries such as service, delivery, film, music, transportation, healthcare, cleaning, tech, etc. Although some giggers may find jobs in ways other than online, anyone who finds a job through a platform is considered a "platform worker".

As far as technological advances are concerned, these promote online gigs as more jobs are created and job searches become easier. This, in turn, allows more people to connect and thus support themselves and their loved ones. In addition, gig work gives people the opportunity to choose for themselves - for some it is the primary source of income and for others a way to earn some extra money when it suits them.

The world is currently trying to navigate and construct regulations that are applicable to the industry. In Sweden, platform companies are coming together with the aim of offering gig workers the same rights, benefits and working standards as a traditional employee. The gig platform as a whole is handling these issues well and is constantly working to collaborate with other prominent players such as associations and government organizations to create the most universally beneficial solution moving forward.

The platform economy is the answer to many problems that society faces in employment and unemployment. Therefore, platform companies want to emphasize and encourage people to work on their own terms and give gig jobs a chance.

Join us this month as we discuss more about how this exciting industry is evolving within Sweden and influencing the way we look at work.

In the meantime, focus on what you do best and become a Gigger today!
